The first public meeting of the campaign took place at the Catford Constitutional last night. Representatives of the Sedgehill centre, the Honor Oak Centre, Scotney Hall, the Leemore and the Evelyn Centre were present. Representatives of the Library campaign also came and spoke. There were also representatives of Mencap present. They currently occupy a floor on the Leemore Centre, but have been told they will have to fight for it in future. There was agreement in the room that the council had not been clear or communicative with the centres, and that they loss of the centres would be draining “the life blood” of the community. It was decided that a leaflet should be produced to encourage people to rally on 11th November. This is the date when the mayor and cabinet will meet to make a final decision on the community centres and libraries. It was also decided that a website should be produced to promote the campaign.
